Bridging the Gap

Thanks to funding from the UK Community Renewal Fund, The Bridge and Bavs were able to offer a series of FREE workshops on topics of interest to voluntary and community organisations in the Scottish Borders, through our ‘Bridging the Gap through Knowledge Transfer’ project.

Participants were taken through the steps that lead to developing a successful project, achieving funding and project delivery, making a difference for their community.

The first series of workshops took place in May 2022 on “Greening a community building” and “Developing a digitally-connected learning centre”.

Each topic was delivered by a local organisation/development trust that has been successful in developing and running that particular activity, supported by ourselves as facilitators and contributing on the project development aspects.

A second series of (online) workshops on “Greening a community building” took place in September – recordings of the sessions have been made available to those unable to attend during the day and “How To” Guides based on the content of these sessions have been produced.

Organisations signing up for the workshops were able to take up the offer of a technical feasibility study undertaken by qualified consultants, also fully funded through the project; these are key to developing the individual projects in the future.

A highly successful conference “Bridging the Gap – Ideas into Action” was held at the end of November at Tweed Horizons and was very well attended by representatives from organisations running community buildings, grant funders and public agency staff. Presentations on the workshop topics were followed by the latest information on the availability of appropriate grants for taking action. The Scottish Borders Climate Action Route Map was explained and those planning projects with a positive impact were asked to feed in that information to the Council, for a comprehensive overview of all activity in the move to net Zero. The feedback from delegates was enthusiastic and positive – all had very much enjoyed the presentations plus the opportunity to meet with others and discuss their plans.

A Knowledge Bank of resources, including the “How To’” Guides, is freely available through this website.
